You find your self in need of moving soon, but it has been a while and you don’t know where to start. Or maybe you are moving a long distance from home for the first time and need a few hints of how to do it. We spend years carefully collecting out furniture and other things so that we can have our homes just the way we want them. These things are nice and make our lives more pleasant until we find ourselves moving all of them. They take time to pack and lots of money to move and ship them from place to place. So, where do you start figuring out how to move your stuff?
Get Rid of as Much as Possible
I know you love your things but moving them is going to cost you a lot. I bet you have plenty of things that you no longer use or just don’t really need. Those things are not worth the cost to move them. Go though each room and get ride of anything you can, then go to the places you just store things and get rid of most of that stuff.
Use Book Rate
Did you know that when you ship boxes with the US post office you can use a cheaper book rate as long as everything in the box is a book? If you are shipping your things while moving than don’t forget to put all of your books together and ask for book rate.
Pack Economically
Wrap your fabric items around your breakables. This doesn’t always work so use caution. If you can do it you will save yourself some money on packing materials and extra boxes. I love using sheets and towels for this purpose.
Pay Attention to Weight
When you are moving and shipping the weight is the most important factor to keep the price down. You should also know that the post office often won’t ship anything above a certain weight or dimension. And if they do you will be paying a premium for it.
